There Are Only So Many Remaining

As of the end of this past Saturday, October 2nd there were only 90 days left in 2011. It is the fourth quarter and the question is… “Do you know the score?” Some folks are motivated by deadlines and others by a simple list. Either way, now is the time to take stock of what you need to do to make 2011 a great year.

I was talking with a friend and associate of mine yesterday, Bruce Steinman of ImagePros, (Bruce always says with a grin… “I don’t sell stuff… my stuff helps you sell more!”) and he told me that the fourth quarter is ready for him to make this year a banner year. He had it all figured out. He knew where he was in sales and profits compared to last year and exactly what he needed to do to finish strong! Way to go Bruce!

I think Bruce is a rarity in the business world in that he knew. Many folks I talk to don’t know. It’s not because they’re not smart. It’s because they haven’t thought about it or they don’t think about it on a regular basis. I think that most of us are like the frog in the story where it was put in a pan of luke warm water and the heat, ever so slowly, was turned up. The ol’ frog just thought he was getting more and more comfortable until it was too late and he was cooked! (no actual frogs were harmed in this example).

So my advice, take stock! See where you are in relation to what you set out to do at the beginning of this year. Notice how you are progressing. Then change what you need to so you can move closer to your goal. If you happen to have passed the goal you set for yourself… Congratulations! Now, put a mark up really high on the wall so next year you’ll have to really stretch to surpass it. Not for what you’ll get in achieving the goal but in what you’ll become along the way!
