“When I do that, I will…”

Do you remember saying to yourself… “When I do that, I will…” Why do people always make excuses so we don’t do the things we really want or desire? It has everything to do with our belief system. This system will shape your destiny.

As we grow up our beliefs change:

  • It’s not right to want too much abundance.
  • If you are not careful, people will take everything you have!
  • All rich people are snobs. (Unfortunately the popular thing today is to blame the rich and make them villains)

But, remember those days when we were kids:

  • I am going to be a super hero.
  • I am going to be a fireman.
  • I am going to be a rockstar / moviestar.

What actually happened in our lives that diminished our belief in our self and in our own abilities to achieve? It’s unfortunate as we getting older, we face people or experiences that tell us we could never be, have or acquire something or led us believe that we could never be all we could be. It’s like a crab boil… when one crab figures out how to crawl out of the pot of sure death… the other crabs reach up and pull it back into the pot only to die with the others.

Should a bad experience or a huge let down cause us to think we deserve less than our original dreams (remembering the days we were kids)? The late Zig Ziglar called is “Stinkin Thinkin.” The thing about stuff that stinks… the more you stir it the more it stinks. Especially this season, be grateful for the things that are still wonderful in our lives. We can re-shape our future through simple techniques and goal and target setting are some of those simple techniques.

Let me define once the difference between a goal and a target. Goals have dates, targets don’t. Target setting is something you need, want or desire to achieve or master where the time frame isn’t or can’t be defined. None the less you are unconditionally committed to its fulfillment so much so that you relegate it to the highest level of human commitment, a NEED! E.g. I intend to become a top earner in my company.

Goal setting is the act of writing down the results of what you desire as if you’ve already achieved it by a specific date. Seeing yourself having already achieved the goal allows you to take the necessary steps to achieve it. If your mind can see it as being already accomplished, it can also draw you to the path it took to achieve the goal. It’s as if you are walking backwards… Try it… you’ll be amazed how it works.

We are talking about baby steps. It’s the doing and implementing on a regular and consistent basis even if it is just a little bit is the key to success. Taking massive action for just one day won’t get you far, however, taking 10 little baby steps every day or so can eventually get you around the world if you just keep going and don’t quit!
