A Positive Attitude Can Lead to Greater Sales
Believe it or not, I once met a business owner who said to me, “I know the economy’s bad right now, and you probably don’t want to buy, but I thought I’d give it a shot.” Even if I had needed his product, I probably wouldn’t have bought it from him. What I really wanted to do was give this guy a good shake to wake him up.
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” – Winston Churchill
Your attitude is everything in sales. If you don’t think you’re going to make the sale, you’re right. You won’t make the sale. New Thought author, W. Clement Stone, once said,
“Sales are contingent upon the attitude of the salesman – not the attitude of the prospect.”
If you want to make the sale, you must stay positive and believe in yourself, your abilities and your products or services. Because your attitude can affect your prospect’s attitude toward you and how he/she perceives your products or services. Therefore, if you want to make the sale, you better improve your attitude.
In a world filled with so much negativity, gloom and doom, it can be hard to maintain a positive mental attitude. Here are a couple of things you can do be more positive.
Top Strategy No. 1. Control your thoughts.
If your thoughts are negative, you need to turn them around. Junk in equals junk out. Write affirmations on an index card and carry it around with you. (I carry mine around with me every day.) Some examples of affirmations you may want to use, include:
- I have excellent sales abilities!
- I sell like a winner! I succeed like a winner!
- My most important product is me and I believe in ME!
- I can close a deal better than anyone else!
Before you make a sales call, pull your card out and read your affirmations aloud to reinforce them in your mind.
You can also create a vision board with pictures of the ultimate rewards you want to receive from your increased sales, like a new sports car or a dream vacation. Look at your vision board several times a day.
Over time, by saying these affirmations or looking at your vision board, you’ll create new thought patterns in your mind which will trigger positive actions that lead to more successful sales results.
If you need help doing this, contact me. As a coach, I’ve helped many people create powerful affirmations that have helped them create more positive actions and results.
Top Strategy No. 2. Surround yourself with positive people.
It’s difficult to stay positive if your circle of friends is filled with Negative Nellies. One way you can surround yourself with people who support and uplift you is to join a mastermind group. The members in the group essentially become your cheerleaders, cheering you on and helping you achieve your sales goals. As a member of a mastermind, you can’t help but think bigger and strive to stretch your boundaries. I facilitate several mastermind groups that can help you surround yourself with positivity and an attitude of success.
It is possible to change your attitude. All you have to do is choose to do it. Nelson Mandela once said,
“Your playing small does not serve world.”
That means you don’t have to live below your potential. You can succeed in sales and your business – not only for your benefit, but the benefit of your community and the world.
To your success!
